Once a small lower ground floor apartment, in a very pretty conservation area, this one bedroom flat in a south west London townhouse underwent a top to toe refurbishment.
Floors were lowered and the back of the house opened up to a private garden with extended views beyond, albeit back to back gardens, but pretty good for the centre of London. Sitting on your stool in front of the large bifold doors you can hear the birds singing and imagine yourself not quite so close to Vauxhall Bridge!
The open plan kitchen, dining and living room deserved a kitchen that soulfully merged into the space without showing any practicalities or function. So plenty of clever storage was a must. We wanted the cabinetry to feel more like furniture & hand painting it all in the bold Marston & Langinger Olive Green along the length of the cupboards really accentuated this. It also quite unexpectedly brought the garden in to the apartment extending the space beyond its boundary. Veiny Carrara Marble tops, aged solid brass knobs and drawer front labels soften the plain front doors adding a more classical look.
